Lead Software Engineer - Python / Distribution Systems
Open Select Rec is an AI-native platform that automates and accelerates complex processes for over 100 paying customers. They are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to drive backend architecture, design APIs, and mentor engineers while collaborating cross-functionally to achieve ambitious goals.
Responsibilities
Lead and evolve backend architecture for Django REST APIs, real-time WebSocket systems, and distributed task processing
Design, document, and maintain APIs for frontends and partner integrations
Scale and optimize platform reliability and performance as user base grows
Uplevel developer experience through improved logging, error tracking, monitoring, and CI/CD practices
Mentor backend engineers, raise standards, and multiply team impact
Partner cross-functionally with product, frontend, and GTM teams to drive ambitious goals
Qualification
Required
7+ years backend engineering (Python/Django/FastAPI) with deep experience in API design, distributed systems, and cloud architecture
Extensive record leading, mentoring teams, managing complex codebases, and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders
Proven ability building and documenting APIs for modern frontend platforms, and orchestrating multi-step GenAI/LLM workflows
Skilled in cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure), effective communication, technical decision-making, and familiarity with AI-powered IDEs (Cursor, Claude Code)
Preferred
Experience with AWS Bedrock, Terraform/IaC, agentic solutions, LLM observability, and security compliance (SOC2, RBAC)
Basic understanding of Next.js/React for frontend collaboration
