Grants Accountant

Ascendo Resources is currently seeking a Senior Grants Accountant for a full-time, hybrid role. This role involves managing a large-scale government grant portfolio with a focus on NYC housing-related contracts, overseeing billing, budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and compliance while supervising a team of Grant Accountants.

Responsibilities

Manage monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual billing for government and foundation contracts
Process and review 50–80 invoices per month with accuracy and timeliness
Respond to funder inquiries and resolve questioned or disallowed costs
Coordinate with Accounts Receivable to ensure accurate collections and GL balances
Prepare cash flow projections and funding advance requests
Maintain complete, audit-ready billing documentation
Develop grant budgets and manage budget modifications with program leadership
Lead forecasting and variance analysis against approved budgets
Support funding proposals with assumptions, actuals, and financial data
Conduct quarterly budget-to-actual meetings with program teams
Train staff on financial reporting, coding, and variance interpretation
Perform monthly grant reconciliations ensuring allowability and proper allocation
Monitor payroll distributions, cost allocations, and process reclasses as needed
Ensure compliance with OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200)
Oversee City, State, and Federal reporting requirements
Extensive use of NYC PASSport for procurement and invoicing
Working knowledge of NYS SFS (Statewide Financial System)
Familiarity with DOH/OASIS and other government reporting platforms
Supervise and mentor three Grant Accountants
Serve as a liaison between Finance, HR, and Program teams
Support housing and social service programs with financial guidance
Collaborate with operations accounting on cost center setup and closeouts
Support funder and financial statement audits
Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation
Participate in funder trainings and special projects as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or related field
5+ years of nonprofit grants accounting experience
Hands-on experience with City-funded grants and PASSport
Proven ability to manage large grant portfolios ($50M+)
Prior supervisory or lead experience
Strong Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, SUMIFs)
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven
