Junior Engineer - Signal
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is the largest, busiest, and oldest continuously operating commuter railroad in the United States. They are seeking a Junior Engineer in the Signal Department to develop skills for future management positions through training, task assignments, and field rotations.

Responsibilities
Learn and demonstrate control of the following: Manpower, material, equipment, track, budget and quality control
Effectively communicate to form positive relationships and develop motivational skills
Assume responsibility and initiative to get job done productively through the learned process of supervising
Learn union rules and agreements and apply to crafts under jurisdiction
Become familiar with administrative forms required for project control, payroll, material, requisition, etc
Review and understand company policies and procedures
Review and understand maintenance and construction practices
Perform tasks and assignments
Lead by example
Attend Phase II Signal training school and maintain passing grades on exams
Rotate through various maintenance and construction headquarters
Review and understand signal circuit plans
Review and understand equipment and tools used
Become familiar with the territories and types of signal systems in use
Perform field surveys
Review and understand the purpose and procedures for required LIRR and FRA tests
Attend technical evaluations and practical of field personnel
Become familiar with on-going and future signal projects
Ensure a safe working environment and adherence to guidelines of company safety policies and procedures
Attend safety meetings and identify potential safety hazards
Provide support during storms, outages, cut-overs and special events as requested
Perform other assignments as requested by Sr. Management
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college in Electrical Engineering or related field
Must possess strong human relations, communication, interpersonal and judgment skills
Must be self-motivated with the ability to provide solutions to complex problems
Must be a detail oriented individual, with excellent comprehension and research skills
Must be a critical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills
Must have writing, spreadsheet and presentation skills
Must be willing and able to travel to various locations without the use of public transportation
Valid driver's license
Preferred
A minor in Computer Science
Experience in telecommunications or related technologies
Technical writing skills, specification writing skills
