Direct Counsel is partnering with a well-regarded California law firm to recruit a Legal Practice Assistant (LPA) to support its Trial and Litigation Group in the firm’s downtown Los Angeles office. The Legal Practice Assistant provides high-level administrative and litigation support to attorneys within the Trial and Litigation Group, requiring advanced knowledge of litigation procedures and strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

Draft, revise, and format legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, and memoranda
Prepare and file documents in California state and federal courts (e-filing and in-person)
Generate Tables of Authorities and Tables of Contents using firm software
Manage attorney calendars and litigation deadlines (e.g., CompuLaw)
Coordinate case materials and ensure compliance with court rules
Utilize firm systems including MS Office, iManage, CCC Macros, Adobe, and time/billing software
Communicate professionally with attorneys, staff, clients, and external contacts
Maintain accuracy and efficiency in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
Perform additional administrative and litigation support tasks as assigned

Qualification

California litigation experienceFederal litigation experienceAppellate experienceMS Office proficiencyMultitasking abilitiesOrganizational skillsWritten communication skillsVerbal communication skills

Required

High school diploma required
Minimum of 7 years of legal secretary or legal assistant experience
California state and federal litigation experience required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Proven ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines

Preferred

Bachelor's degree preferred
Appellate experience strongly preferred
