Responsibilities

Teach Biology courses, which may include Foundations of Biology, AP Biology, or other specialized science courses, utilizing an engaging, content-rich, and effective instructional approach

Foster a classroom environment that encourages intellectual curiosity, scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and a deep appreciation for the biological sciences

Develop and administer robust assessments to monitor student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback to students and parents

Design and oversee hands-on, inquiry-based laboratory experiments and activities that reinforce theoretical concepts and teach proper lab safety and techniques

Play a pivotal role in establishing the school's culture, contributing to school-wide initiatives, and collaborating with fellow founding teachers to create a cohesive and supportive academic community

Actively participate in professional learning opportunities and school-wide meetings, continually seeking to improve instructional practices

Serve as an advisor or mentor, guiding students in their academic and personal growth within the BASIS model

Required

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a major or significant coursework in Biology or a related scientific field (e.g., Biochemistry, Life Sciences)

A profound passion for the subject matter and an ability to convey complex biological concepts in a clear, compelling, and engaging manner

Exceptional classroom management skills and an ability to create an organized, highly focused, and positive learning environment

Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

A collaborative spirit and a commitment to working as part of a dynamic, founding team

Preferred

Prior teaching experience in Biology at the middle and/or high school level is strongly preferred

Experience teaching advanced placement (AP) or honors-level courses is a significant asset

A Master's degree is highly desirable
