Employee Relations Specialist

The Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for providing frontline employee relations support, addressing workplace concerns, and promoting a fair and supportive work environment in alignment with organizational policies.
Education
Responsibilities
Maintains and administers assigned employee relations services and programs in partnership with managers, supervisors, and KCLS staff to support consistent and effective workplace practices
Services as primary point of contact for employee relations inquiries, providing initial support to employees and leaders, conducting intake, gathering relevant information, and determining appropriate next steps or escalation
Supports and counsels employees and leaders in addressing routine workplace concerns, acting as a liaison between employees and leadership while balancing individual, managerial, and organizational needs
Provides guidance and makes recommendations for resolution of personnel and performance issues in accordance with KCLS policy and applicable laws
Assists leaders with corrective action documentation, conversations, and processes to ensure timely, consistent, and appropriate intervention
Conducts assigned employee relations investigations in accordance with established protocols. Prepares documentation, summarizes findings, and escalates concerns or risk indicators as appropriate
Maintains accurate, confidential documentation or employee relations cases, investigations, and program activities in compliance with privacy, retention, and record-keeping requirements
Administers the exit interview program, including conducting exit interviews, collecting and analyzing data, and escalating trends and significant findings
Facilitates the upward feedback program by soliciting and confidentially distributing feedback, analyzes results, and escalates trends and concerns
Assists in the interactive process for employee accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), including gathering information, coordinating documentation, and supporting compliance efforts
Supports coordination and delivery of employee relations trainings
Serves as a member of various committees, as assigned
Provides backup to other HR positions, as needed
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in human resources, public administration, or related field
Two years of experience in human resources with a focus in employee relations, investigations, and/or performance management
Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the work of the classification will be considered
Working knowledge of employee relations principles, performance management processes, and conflict resolution strategies
Understanding of employment laws and regulations relevant to employee relations
Familiarity with labor unions or a unionized workforce
Skills in gathering information from various persons and resources
Skills to handle sensitive situations and confidential information with discretion
Skills to identify issues requiring escalation and communicate concerns clearly and timely
Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
Skills to prioritize tasks, manage multiple assignments, and meet established deadlines
Interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to work effectively with employees and leaders
Proficiency using standard office and HR information systems and technology tools
A valid Washington State driver's license is required
