The Pipelayer is responsible for assembling, installing, and maintaining underground piping systems for various utilities on civil construction projects, ensuring compliance with project specifications and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

Lay and install various types of underground piping, including storm drains, sanitary sewer lines, and water mains
Read and interpret construction blueprints, specifications, and project plans to determine pipe installation requirements
Perform excavation and trenching activities following OSHA safety regulations
Ensure proper alignment, grade, and sealing of pipes using lasers, levels, and other measuring equipment
Connect pipes using appropriate methods such as sealing joints, welding, or using gaskets and fittings
Backfill trenches and restore work areas upon completion of installations
Operate and use hand tools and power tools such as pipe saws, tampers, and trench shoring equipment
Work closely with equipment operators, foremen, and laborers to ensure smooth installation
Troubleshoot and repair pipeline issues such as leaks or misalignments
Maintain a clean and organized worksite, ensuring compliance with all safety and environmental regulations
Assist in rigging and setting heavy pipes into place using hoists, cranes, or other lifting equipment
Adhere to company policies, safety guidelines, and project deadlines

Required

Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in underground utilities, pipeline installation, or a similar construction trade
Understanding of pipe materials (PVC, concrete, ductile iron, HDPE, etc.), trench safety, and pipe-laying techniques
Familiarity with trench boxes, pipe lasers, and compaction equipment
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, survey stakes, and project drawings
Knowledge of OSHA standards related to excavation and underground construction
Must be able to lift 50+ lbs., bend, kneel, stand for long periods, and work in various weather conditions
Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment with a crew
A valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites

Preferred

OSHA 10 or 30 certification
Confined Space Entry certification
Competent person training for trench safety
