Core Proteomics & Metabolomics Facility Scientist

The University of Connecticut's Proteomics and Metabolomics Facility is seeking a Facility Scientist 2 to assist with quantitative metabolomics analysis using advanced mass spectrometry instrumentation. This role involves providing customized analysis and training to researchers across multiple campuses and institutions.

Responsibilities

Assist the Facility Director with quantitative metabolomics analysis using advanced mass spectrometry instrumentation and complex bioinformatics software
Provide fully customized analysis, user training, and educational opportunities in analytical techniques to faculty across multiple UConn campuses and external academic and industry research institutions

Qualification

Required

Master's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related field
Two or more years of experience implementing sample preparation techniques and tandem mass spectrometry for metabolite identification and quantification
Experience with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) instrumentation
Publication history that demonstrates the successful application of UPLC-MS/MS methods for quantitative metabolomic analysis
Demonstrated experience with commonly used metabolomics software platforms for compound identification and quantification such as Progenesis QI, Metaboscape, MS-DIAL, or MetaboAnalyst
Demonstrated experience using communication skills and to inform researchers with varied scientific backgrounds about analytical techniques and informatics methods
Experience working with and/or training scientists in a highly collaborative environment that emphasizes comprehensive analysis and one-on-one consultations with researchers

Preferred

Doctoral degree in chemistry, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related field
Experience with collaborative research and/or work experience in a core facility setting
Demonstrated experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting experience using Bruker timsTOF, Waters TOF and/or Thermo Scientific Orbitrap mass spectrometers
Experience with UPLC-MS/MS-based lipidomic analysis
