Data and Performance Engineer

Longroad Energy is a Boston, MA headquartered renewable energy developer focused on the development and operation of wind and solar energy projects throughout North America. The Data & Performance Engineer will manage data for operational reporting of solar and wind plants, automate data pipelines, and support operations teams in identifying power system underperformance.

Responsibilities

Automate and improve reporting and performance analysis processes
Maintain, optimize, and monitor data pipelines in AWS and Snowflake
Create and improve automated data quality checks and data cleaning processes
Use SQL and Python to calculate key performance metrics required by financial and O&M contracts
Create and improve test cases, functions, and environments to streamline updates to code
Follow established code review and change management processes using Github and IT service management platforms
Support the onboarding of new operating projects by collecting metadata, reviewing performance metric reporting requirements, creating daily and monthly operating report templates, and verifying data once the project is online
Verify annual planned performance metrics against budgets, design models, financial models, and actual performance
Improve data lake by backfilling historical data, cross-checking reported data, removing unused sets of data, and adding documentation
Create and enhance dashboards in cloud platforms such as Snowflake or Domo for wind, solar, and battery equipment monitoring and anomaly detection
Respond to data requests and data quality issues raised by Operations and Asset Managers
Occasionally travel to operating wind, solar, and battery projects, and offices as needed

Required

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or comparable experience
Understanding of basic physics of electricity
Experience using Python for data analysis and calculations
Experience with database configuration and SQL
Experience with serverless cloud environments such as Amazon Web Services or Snowflake
Experience with Git for version control
Ability to clearly document code and read other people's code
Experience with common spreadsheet and word processing systems
Interest in renewable energy industry

Preferred

Experience in wind, solar, battery, and/or power generation industries
Experience with renewable energy financial agreements and wholesale power market pricing
Experience using and developing machine learning models
