Technical Designer Level II - IV - DC Field Facility (NHMFL)
Florida State University is one of the nation's elite research universities, and they are seeking a Technical Designer Level II - IV for their National High Magnetic Field Laboratory. Responsibilities
Prepare, cool, and monitor dilution refrigerators and auxiliary cryostats; diagnose and correct abnormal conditions; work with visiting and in-house scientists to mount samples, wire low-noise measurement lines, and integrate custom probes and sensors while meeting stringent thermal, vibrational, and electromagnetic cleanliness requirements
Collaborate with engineers and scientists to design, assemble, and modify bespoke low-temperature hardware, including sample probes and sample platforms; configure data-acquisition and control systems and maintain instrumentation databases for DC-Field and other NHMFL project teams
Instruct external users and new staff on safe operation of cryostats, magnet systems, cryogen handling, and relevant safety procedures; serve as a technical resource for scientists and users of NHMFL systems
Specify, purchase, and track instrumentation, cryogens, and consumables; maintain accurate logbooks, calibration records, and preventive-maintenance schedules; maintain expertise in cryogenics and low-temperature measurement techniques and propose improvements to expand the facility’s capability and reliability
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree and three years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and experience equal to seven years
Candidates with an additional three years of related experience will be considered for levels III - VI. Each level requires an additional three years of related experience
