Building Engineer

San Antonio River Authority is responsible for maintaining facilities and ensuring their operational efficiency. The Building Engineer oversees maintenance operations, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical repairs, while coordinating with contractors and managing safety protocols.

Responsibilities

Oversees the maintenance of facilities, including electric, plumbing, fire safety, security, HVAC, painting, and carpentry tasks
Meets with contractors to coordinate building repairs and maintenance projects
Manages fire safety and security alarm equipment, including testing, repair, and scheduled maintenance
Perform all plumbing, electrical, or HVAC repairs required of SARA facilities which includes maintenance of heating equipment, chillers, DX units, pumps, fan coil units, VAV, and air distribution systems, with or without assistance
Repair doors, ceilings, hand railings, floors, and other general repairs, adjustments, and installations about the property
Perform F/L/S preventative maintenance on equipment throughout SARA facilities
Perform preventive maintenance duties at various locations in accordance with River Authority standards, building protocol, manufacturer recommendations, and industry best practices
Identify potential facility issues and report findings to the Facilities foreman
Travel to multiple locations as needed for facility maintenance and other assignments
Review assigned work orders and estimate the time and materials needed to complete repairs. Update all work orders in the automated system and complete all tasks within the required SLA
Utilization of Outlook calendar to plan for upcoming projects and coordinate sanitation and ordering of supplies to support projects and events
Supports janitorial services when needed
Required to be on the “On-call” rotation schedule and be able to respond to on-call request within one hour

Required

A High School diploma or G.E.D equivalency and three (4) years of progressively responsible experience in custodial work and maintenance; care of commercial buildings including HVAC diagnosis and repair; or a combination of experience and education that results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Required to obtain EPA Universal Certification and Electrical Maintenance Technician license after probationary period
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and an insurable driving record

Painting, carpentry, and general maintenance
HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
Safe lifting procedures
Current office practices and equipment, including applicable software
Microsoft Office Suite
Interpret blueprints, floorplans, and schematics
Communicate orally and in writing
Customer Service
Experienced in closing out work orders through maintenance management system and proficient in using digital tools and work iPads to complete assigned work ordered
Must be able to function in a principle-based organization that has a culture built on character and SARA Core Values of Stewardship, Integrity, and Excellence
