SUPERVISORY TRAINING INSTRUCTOR (AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE)

USAJOBS is looking for a Supervisory Training Instructor in Aircraft Maintenance. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a first-level supervisor providing planning and direction to, organizing work for, and exercising control over assigned nonsupervisory subordinate employees.

Responsibilities

Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the section/unit, ensuring that the courses taught comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet customer needs
Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities
Develops and/or revises lesson plans and training materials
Instructs students through assigned blocks of instruction at basic and/or advanced levels
Represents the training unit/element supervised with a variety of installation and functional area organizations and works on special projects as directed

Minimum degree requirement of an Associate's Degree from CCAF or a recognized accredited college or university and experience that has demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area to be taught
The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays
Shift work (nights) may be required
The employee may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft
Requires some physical exertion which may include at times such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, slippery, and/or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, kneeling, stretching, pushing, pulling, reaching; and recurring lifting and carrying of moderately heavy items (occasionally items up to 50 pounds)
Requires specific but common physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity
Work is performed in a classroom environment that involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety instructions
Some instruction may be conducted in an aircraft maintenance environment: clean, well-lighted, and well-ventilated production areas involving moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, e.g., working around electrical and radiant energy and moving parts, carts, machines, and vehicles with exposure to irritant chemical and noise
Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, boots, goggles, hearing protection, gloves, and/or shields
May involve some work outside on the flight line in a simulated flight line environment, subject to cold, heat, and/or dust
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems
Knowledge of basic aircraft maintenance procedures, aircraft system theory, common test equipment, common tool usage, technical orders, automated maintenance management systems, safety, security, management and maintenance directives
Knowledge of a wide range of principles and practical methods, techniques and tools of instructions to teach a variety of students with a range of differences such as diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest
Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR a LL.B. or J.D., if related, with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%
Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level
Knowledge of a wide range of the principles and practical methods, techniques, and tools of instruction to teach a variety of students with a range of differences such as diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest
Knowledge of Aircraft Maintenance with a specialty in F-16 and MQ-9 Crew Chief at a practical level to include procedures, aircraft system theory, common test equipment, common tool usage, Air Force Technical Orders (AFTOs), automated maintenance management systems, safety, security, and management and maintenance directives
Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulation, practices, and procedures
Knowledge of Aircraft Maintenance career field functions and capabilities
Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships
