Trianing Specialist IV - Use of Force Instructor/Investigator

They are seeking a Training Specialist IV who will serve as a Use of Force Instructor and Investigator, responsible for training on use of force topics, ensuring compliance with regulations, and conducting investigations related to use of force incidents.

Responsibilities

Train on all use of force topics, legislative mandates, and DOR training requirements
Ensure that all training meets federal, state, local, and DOR requirements and mandates
Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for use of force and show of force incidents
Make decisions regarding use-of-force training, review best industry practices in use-of-force training, and incorporate them into monthly training
Create and train on all policy and procedure updates for law enforcement in DOR
Create all training related to BlueTeam entries, specifically use of force, show of force, and excessive force incidents
Be the SME for all topics taught at the 80-hour new hire training around policy and procedure, statutes, BlueTeam, and report writing
Evaluate policy, training, and other factors and determine if adjustments are needed regarding use of force techniques
Plan and conduct a complex investigation of administrative violations
Backup course coordinator for the Office of Professional Standards (OPS) Training Specialist and SBG employees
Decide the most appropriate training information from outside vendors and what training is needed for law enforcement employees

Required

Seven (7) years of relevant experience as a law enforcement officer serving in a state-certified capacity. With three of those years as a law enforcement firearms or arrest control instructor
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Police Science, Law Enforcement, Law, Education Instructor or a closely related field as determined by the Department equal to seven (7) years
Applicants must successfully pass a background investigation and a tax check prior to appointment
Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License (at the time of application)

Preferred

Experience working with Colorado Statutes and laws, in a state regulatory environment
Verifiable PPCT (Pressure Point Control Tactics) instructor certified
Verifiable Firearms Instructor Certification
One year or more of Investigative experience in an internal affairs role
Verifiable MRDS-certified instructor
Experience with policy drafting and implementation
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Be diplomatic, patient and able to maintain respectful environments during difficult conversations and situations
Experienced in advising senior management on policy decisions
Proven ability to determine the systems, guidelines and programs used
Proven success organizing and tracking workload
Proven ability to work independently and accept supervision
