Compliance Specialists
The University of Utah's Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX is seeking a Compliance Specialist to oversee compliance with university policies and federal regulations related to discrimination and sexual misconduct. This role involves serving as a resource for the university community, conducting investigations, and facilitating resolutions of complaints.

Responsibilities
Serves as a resource to University administrators, patients, guests or participants, faculty, staff, and students when equal opportunity issues arise
Conducts initial review of incoming discrimination complaints and disability accommodation requests for sufficiency of information
Facilitates resolution of complaints through mediation, negotiation, etc., when determined as an appropriate resolution process. Coordinates communication between parties and the Office of General Counsel in settlement negotiations
Independently plans and conducts investigations: Interviews complaining and responding parties and witnesses; Identifies, gathers, and reviews documentary or other evidence; Analyzes all evidence gathered during investigations, in relation to relevant University of Utah policy, state and federal laws; Concludes or recommends whether a violation of the statutes and/or policies has occurred and prepares a written report; Updates and maintains OEO databases
Coordinates with University Administration during an investigation. Serves as a support and a resource during appeals or other University hearing processes
Manages and prepares OEO files for discovery or trial preparation. Evaluates faculty, staff, and visitor requests for accommodation and investigates alleged violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended (ADA) or section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (Section 504), and serves as a resource to the University regarding issues related to the ADA, accommodations, and disability access
Develops and delivers training regarding sexual harassment, discrimination, and the ADA/Section 504. Updates and modifies current OEO training in the areas of University obligations in compliance with state and federal equal opportunity and affirmative action state and federal laws
Prepares initial draft of University response to State or Federal government inquiries or complaints. Attends administrative hearings and mediation conferences with state and federal agencies

Qualification
Required
1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience)
Compliance Specialist, IV: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 8 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 6 years of directly related work experience
Preferred
Juris Doctorate (JD) degree preferred
Strong Legal Writing Skills Preferred
Preference may be given to those with two or more years of experience working in the areas of civil rights compliance, student conduct, or a similar field
Experience with trauma-informed support services, conducting investigations or supporting individuals who have experienced sexual violence or civil rights issues
Advancing compliance with government regulations that pertain to students, faculty and university staff, including Title IX, Clery Act, Title VI, Title VII, Section 504, ADA and other civil rights laws and regulations
Preference may be given to individuals who are bilingual (fluent in both written and spoken languages) in addition to English
