Responsibilities
Advising on open government issues such as the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and conflicts of interest
Conducting legal research and providing practical legal analysis
Drafting legal memoranda, ordinances, resolutions, and related documents
Negotiating, drafting, and reviewing agreements and contracts
Supporting clients on-site during office hours, as needed
Attending meetings with department heads, agency staff, elected officials, and public bodies
Assisting with agenda review and governance-related matters
Supporting additional municipal law matters as assigned
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
Active membership in the State Bar of California, in good standing
3–7+ years of experience practicing municipal law or working closely with public agencies
Solid working knowledge of California open government and ethics laws
Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Confidence working independently while delivering exceptional client service
