Senior User Interface Designer
Robert Half is seeking a Senior Conversational / Voice UI Designer to help design and evolve a phone-first AI voice agent used by hundreds of thousands of users. This highly collaborative role focuses on creating natural and empathetic voice conversations for high-intent moments, ensuring a fully voice-led experience without the need for users to click buttons.
Responsibilities
Conduct conversation-focused research, including transcript analysis and conversation mining, to understand user intent, pain points, and real-world language patterns
Define and document the AI agent’s voice, tone, and personality, including empathy, warmth, clarity, and how to respond to frustration or confusion
Establish scalable voice and tone guidelines that ensure consistency across conversations and teams
Design end-to-end conversational flows, including: Happy paths, Edge cases, Error handling and recovery, Clarification, confirmation, and fallback strategies
Write spoken-first scripts and prompts that sound natural when read aloud, not robotic or overly scripted
Create microcopy and language variations to avoid repetition and maintain a human feel
Design conversations that maintain context and memory across turns to create seamless interactions
Design for phone-based voice interactions, accounting for: Barge-in, Latency, TTS pronunciation and pacing, Interruptions and incomplete inputs
Push scripts through Text-to-Speech tools and actively listen for awkward phrasing or unnatural cadence
Apply conversational principles such as clarity, conciseness, cooperation, and contextual awareness
Role-play and simulate conversations with team members and stakeholders to identify breakdowns early
Partner closely with product managers, engineers, designers, and marketing to translate conversational requirements into buildable experiences
Lead walkthroughs with stakeholders to gain alignment, incorporate feedback, and iterate quickly
Continuously refine conversations based on real usage data and user behavior
Qualification
Required
3+ years of experience in conversational design, voice UI, UX writing, or content design
Phone-based voice experience (chat-only experience will not be a fit)
Experience working directly with product and engineering teams in a production environment
Hands-on experience designing or supporting AI-powered or LLM-driven experiences
Strong writing skills with a deep understanding of spoken language vs written language
Comfort working in ambiguity and shaping a role that is still evolving
Preferred
Healthcare or other regulated / high-stakes industry experience
Background designing for voice assistants or large-scale conversational systems
Experience analyzing large volumes of call transcripts or real conversation data
Familiarity with conversational AI concepts such as intents, entities, prompts, and context management
