Responsibilities
Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on marine engines (inboard, outboard, diesel, and gasoline), electrical systems, fuel systems, propulsion, steering, and hydraulic systems
Conduct routine maintenance, including oil changes, tune-ups, winterization, and seasonal preparations
Inspect, test, and repair propellers, hulls, navigational equipment, HVAC, refrigeration, and other onboard systems
Install and upgrade marine equipment, electronics, and accessories in compliance with industry standards
Maintain accurate service records, prepare repair estimates, and order parts as needed
Provide exceptional customer service by explaining repairs, offering recommendations, and educating clients on vessel maintenance
Adhere to all safety protocols, ABYC standards, and environmental regulations
Mentor junior technicians and stay current with ongoing training and certifications
Qualification
Required
Yamaha or Mercury Outboard Master Technician certification or equivalent Master status from major manufacturers (e.g., Mercury Marine, Yamaha, Volvo Penta)
Minimum of 5-10 years of hands-on experience as a marine technician/mechanic
Strong knowledge of marine electrical, corrosion, systems, and engine diagnostics
Proficiency with diagnostic tools, hand/power tools, and marine-specific software
High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary certification, associate degree in marine technology, or related field preferred
Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in varied environments (shop, dock, outdoors)
Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, stand for extended periods, and work in confined spaces
Valid driver's license and clean driving record; boating license or experience operating vessels a plus
Strong communication and customer service skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and as a team in a fast-paced environment
Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Preferred
Post-secondary certification, associate degree in marine technology, or related field
