Postdoctoral Scientist- Summers Lab
Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) is seeking a motivated and creative Postdoctoral Scientist to join their dynamic team. The role focuses on exploring how HIV-1 selectively packages its RNA genome, involving independent research, mentoring undergraduate students, and publishing findings.

Responsibilities
Meet regularly with Dr. Summers to discuss strategy, analyze results, and write and publish manuscripts on their findings
Direct and mentor a team of undergraduates who will contribute to these studies
Spend 90% of their time on activities, which can be roughly broken down as 70% independent research, 10% research/mentoring with undergraduates, and 10% analysis/writing
Advise and mentor graduate students in the laboratory who will be conducting their own parallel but independent studies (5% effort)
Participate in departmental seminar, lab retreats and national/international conferences (5%)
Use modern molecular biology and in vitro transcription methods to prepare RNAs and proteins for structural and mechanistic studies
Qualification
Required
PhD degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or biophysics
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and discuss findings clearly in diverse settings
A proactive and driven attitude, with the resilience to pursue novel research avenues and tackle ambitious scientific questions
Preferred
Experience in either NMR or Cryo-EM preferred
