Chief Range Safety Officer

NEOGOV is seeking a Chief Range Safety Officer responsible for the overall safety and compliance oversight of shooting activities at the Holly Shelter Shooting Range. The CRSO ensures adherence to safety protocols and regulations while conducting training and supervising staff.

Responsibilities

Enforce all range safety rules, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and emergency response protocols
Supervise day-to-day range activities to ensure safe firearm handling and compliance by all shooters
Monitor range conditions, identifying and mitigating potential hazards promptly
Maintain high visibility on the firing line and provide real-time corrective actions as needed
Train, supervise, and evaluate Range Safety Officers (RSOs)
Conduct in-house RSO certification or recertification programs, as applicable
Provide ongoing staff development in safety practices, emergency procedures, and customer service
Prepare and submit weekly deposit reports, ensuring accuracy in revenue tracking and compliance with agency financial procedures
Verify and reconcile daily and weekly closeout reports, including attendance numbers, register receipts, and point-of-sale summaries
Maintain accurate financial logs for range fees, training classes, equipment rentals, and merchandise sales
Assist with budget planning by providing projections for range maintenance, staffing needs, and equipment replacement
Ensure the range meets or exceeds all local, state, and federal safety regulations
Maintain accurate logs, incident reports, equipment checklists, and inspection records
Develop, update, and implement range safety policies and SOPs
Oversee the safe condition and operation of all range equipment, targets, backstops, and safety infrastructure
Monitor inventory levels of essential supplies such as PPE, target materials, range signage, cleaning supplies, and first-aid items
Coordinate maintenance schedules and report facility needs to management
Ensure first-aid kits, trauma kits, and emergency equipment are stocked and ready for use
Provide professional, courteous assistance to all range users
Address safety questions, range policies, and concerns promptly and clearly
Support public events, training programs, group bookings, and outreach programs
Attends training as required
Performs related duties as required

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Parks & Recreation or a related field preferred
Three (3) years of experience as a Range Safety Officer or in a similar role
Valid North Carolina Driver's License
First Aid and CPR certification desired
NRA Range Safety Officer certification
Firearms instructor certification from an accredited source
Physical ability to perform basic life operational functions including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
Ability to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
Willingness to work a non-traditional schedule, typically Tuesday through Saturday

Preferred

NRA Chief Range Safety Officer certification preferred (required within 6 months of hire)
Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred or the ability to obtain
