Senior Associate County Attorney
Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services is seeking a Senior Associate County Attorney to provide legal counsel and representation for the Cobb County Board of Commissioners and various County agencies. The role involves negotiating and drafting contracts, developing legislation, and maintaining knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
Public Safety
Responsibilities
Serves as legal counsel representing the legal interests of the County for assigned departments; provides legal advice to represented clients and other department heads, elected officials and managers as requested or assigned under the direction of the County Attorney
Negotiates, drafts and reviews contracts; analyzes terms and conditions to ensure County’s interests are protected against potential liability; resolves contract disputes; reviews contracts for compliance with internal policies and procedures, as well as local, state and federal laws; coordinates purchases and sales of County property along with drafting of leases and easements in compliance with applicable laws and policies
Develops and reviews legislation; reviews, drafts, and interprets laws, regulations, and resolutions; reviews and interprets pending and new legislation; analyzes impact on County policies and services; provides advice and direction to County officials and departments regarding the same; drafts County ordinances and internal policies; provides advice regarding the Georgia Open Records Act and the Georgia Open Meetings Act
Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, including trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; participates in training and continuing education activities; attends and conducts meetings, workshops and seminars as appropriate
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctorate Degree required
Minimum of five years' experience in negotiating, drafting, and reviewing contracts
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License
Must possess and maintain certification and licensure from the Georgia Bar Association
Preferred
Knowledge and experience in local government real estate transactions
Three years' experience in local government law and contracting
