Development Officer
Kitsap Mental Health Services is seeking a Development Officer to support mission-driven fundraising efforts that strengthen their programs and expand community impact. The role involves managing donor relationships, coordinating major gifts and grants, and developing compelling donor communications to enhance engagement with behavioral health services.
Responsibilities
Manage relationships with individual donors, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship to ensure long-term engagement and support
Coordinate with the Senior Director of Communications to align donor engagement, major gifts, grants, and community outreach efforts with KMHS goals and strategy
Develop compelling donor communications, stewardship materials, and impact reports to strengthen donor confidence and connection to KMHS in partnership with the Communications Department
Partner with the grant manager to coordinate grant development opportunities
Maintain accurate donor data, gift records, and reporting within fundraising systems to ensure compliance and data integrity
Monitor fundraising progress and donor activity, providing regular updates to leadership to meet annual and long-term financial goals
Ensure fundraising practices reflect ethical standards, organizational priorities, and donor intent
Collaborate with internal teams to identify funding needs, program opportunities, and donor engagement pathways
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, or related discipline
Five (5) years professional experience in personal solicitation in fund-raising or like vocation such as personal banking or sales
Experience with databases for fund-raising, subscription, or membership purposes
Must meet all agency driving requirements, including being at least 21 years old, having been licensed for a minimum of three years, successfully completing a motor vehicle history check, possessing and maintaining a current, valid driver's license in the state of Washington, and having reliable, insured transportation
General knowledge of mental healthcare operations and issues within the mental healthcare industry
General knowledge of fund development techniques and practices, experience in a non-profit setting, familiarity with donors, boards and volunteers
General knowledge of donor cultivation for fund development
General knowledge of charitable gift laws
General knowledge of relevant data collection and analysis
Skilled in related fundraising donor relationship management software
Skilled in demonstrated effectiveness in written and oral communication that is persuasive and produces results
Skilled in the areas of leadership, teamwork, customer service, and while contributing to KMHS' success
Skilled in self-motivation
Skilled in planning and meeting project timelines and deadlines
Ability to successfully obtain major gift commitments from prospective contributors
Ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships which embody service and open communication
Ability to analyze and interpret fundraising, financial, and performance data to draw strategic conclusions and identify growth opportunities
Ability to project a professional image in appearance and manner
Ability to serve donors in a manner that reflects credibility and professionalism on the part of the organization
Ability to exhibit integrity and maintain confidentiality
Ability to work effectively with other staff members, donors, and KMHS representatives, and to motivate others
Ability to work independently under the pressure of deadlines and frequent interruptions with minimal supervision
Preferred
Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential
