Responsibilities

Assists developers, contractors, realtors, attorneys and the public with zoning applications. Computes application fees, collects payments, and prepares zoning files
Administers, interprets, explains and enforces zoning ordinances, policies and procedures
Reviews and processes a wide range of zoning applications and building permits to include both residential and commercial building permits, administrative variances, certificates of use, group homes, signage and addressing. Ensures compliance with Land Development Regulations
Provides information on zoning requirements and standards to the public, other staff, design professionals and elected officials. Answers both walk-in and telephone questions regarding zoning
Assists in the preparation and implementation of community plans and other long-range planning projects as assigned
Conducts research and analysis, appropriately utilizes technical and statistical information, and writes reports for special projects on various topics including land use, development, environment, transportation and community design
Provides support to senior staff members
Actively listens to understand customer's needs
Provides prompt and reliable service
Follows through on commitments made to customers
Demonstrates a "can-do" approach
Exhibits problem-solving skills
Resolves issues in an efficient and constructive manner
Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner

Required

Considerable knowledge of the objectives, principles and techniques of urban planning
Extensive knowledge of zoning codes, ordinances, regulations
Ability to interpret, implement and apply zoning regulations
Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications
Ability to analyze assigned problems in urban planning, land use, zoning, and organize and carry out studies to provide solutions to these problems
Ability to present technical reports and recommendations concisely and effectively in oral and written form
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, the general public, members of advisory boards and commissions, and public officials
Ability to perform field inspections
Ability to work independently on concurrent projects in a fast-paced professional environment
Ability to prepare and present audio/visual materials
Ability to perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of data for planning purposes
Possess proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Has working knowledge of Adobe design software (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), AutoCAD, Google SketchUp, and ArcView GIS
Graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in urban and regional planning, geography, architecture, or other field closely related to urban planning
Have at least two (2) years professional planning experience for a state, county or local government planning agency or private organization directly involved in land development or land use design functions
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License throughout employment
