Designer, Cut & Sew Knitwear

Responsibilities

Research trends, materials, color, and silhouette direction relevant to cut & sew knitwear (e.g., jersey, rib, fleece, ponte, and interlock)
Partner with Design Director to build seasonal mood boards, color palettes, and key fabric stories
Collaborate with Material and PD to source and develop new fabrications, finishes, and sustainable materials
Attend fabric and vendor meetings to gather inspiration and innovation opportunities
Translate seasonal concept into sketches and CADs for each style
Create detailed design sheets with clear callouts for construction, trims, stitching, and finishing
Work with PD and factories to ensure design feasibility, target costing, and execution quality
Review and comment on prototypes, SMS, and fit samples to maintain design integrity and proportion
Manage colorways, print layouts, and embellishment placements with Graphic and Technical Design teams
Partner with Merchandising to ensure product assortment aligns with seasonal strategy and key item focus
Communicate closely with PD, Sourcing, and Tech Design to troubleshoot development challenges and maintain timelines
Participate in weekly WIPs and milestone meetings to track progress and resolve issues
Support material testing and quality reviews with PD and Tech
Maintain up-to-date CADs, design boards, and PLM entries for each season
Support the preparation of internal reviews, line presentations, and leadership meetings
Assist in styling and creative direction for lookbooks or photoshoots when needed
Ensure design packages are clean, consistent, and reflect brand identity
Organize reference samples, fabric library, and seasonal archives
Provide mentorship and feedback to Assistant Designers
Work collaboratively across Sweater, Cut & Sew, and Woven categories to ensure cohesive brand handwriting

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design or equivalent
5–8 years of experience in women's contemporary or sportswear design, with emphasis on cut & sew knits
Strong understanding of cut & sew knit fabrications, drape, and behavior (rib, slub, French terry, ponte, interlock, etc.)
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, PLM systems, and Excel
Solid knowledge of fit, pattern, and garment construction for knit categories
Strong eye for color, proportion, and modern silhouettes
Excellent communication, organization, and follow-through skills
Experience working with overseas factories and vendors
Strong portfolio showcasing creative and technical design capabilities
