Responsibilities
Provide practical and strategic legal counsel and risk management advice to senior leadership and People team colleagues on a wide variety of employment matters in a manner that is consistent with the Company’s values and goals
Advice ranges from recruiting, compensation, performance management, separations, internal investigations, agreements, leaves of absence, discrimination, harassment, diversity and inclusion, workplace privacy, wage and hour compliance, restrictive covenants, reasonable accommodations, employee classification, immigration, mergers and acquisitions, labor matters, and general employment risk management
Participate in and provide leadership on efforts to design, implement and refine best-in-class employment-related practices, policies, guidelines, tools, programs and forms that align with the company’s employee engagement strategy, values and business goals
Represent and defend the company as necessary in employment disputes, including lawyer’s letters and administrative charges
Manage outside counsel as necessary for employment litigation
Manage and oversee outside counsel in the provision of advice in jurisdictions outside of the United States, including Works Council matters
Prepare and conduct regular employee and management trainings on relevant matters, and managing company training programs in conjunction with the People team
Monitor and assess the impact of legal and regulatory developments and enforcement trends at a state and federal level, and globally, in conjunction with outside counsel and People team members
Manage Outside Counsel, driving efficiency and scale consistent with organizational demands
Provide substantive support for the rest of the Legal team as needed, including on strategic transactions
Qualification
Required
12+ years of relevant experience gained at law firm and in-house (at a publicly traded company), including experience building and implementing public company processes, policies, and governance
JD or LLM from an accredited law school and maintain active bar membership in at least one US state
Proven capability to manage high-volume, complex environments with sound judgment and adaptability. Fosters inclusivity and manage emotions to achieve optimal business outcomes. Able to effectively pivot direction and collaborate across teams to meet strategic initiatives
Exceptional business judgment and legal issue identification skills, coupled with strong problem-solving abilities. Adept at articulating business needs and defining actionable strategies. Actively seeks input from diverse sources to ensure engagement and influence stakeholder buy-in at all levels
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated passion for the business. Provides clear, concise advice, and creative solutions where necessary, on established timelines to meet business needs that appropriately manage risk
Operates autonomously while also being a collaborative team player who brings a positive, 'can do' attitude to the workplace. Works effectively with other members of the Legal team, internal clients, and cross-functional organizations to influence and develop strategic initiatives
Preferred
Successful track record of in-house or similar advisory experience
J.D. with exceptional academic credentials
Experience with change management
Experience leading or supporting transformation initiatives or high-growth environments
