Responsibilities

Lead the creation of conceptual, logical, and physical data models for enterprise systems, data warehouses, analytics environments, and modernization initiatives
Assess existing data ecosystems, identify gaps or inconsistencies, and develop recommendations for optimization and future-state architecture
Facilitate requirements and discovery sessions with senior stakeholders, SMEs, technical teams, and end users
Map complex data flows, lineage, and integration points across systems
Establish and maintain data standards, governance processes, naming conventions, and documentation frameworks
Review and validate work from junior modelers, analysts, or development teams for data integrity and architectural alignment
Translate human-centered workflows, business rules, and operational needs into structured data solutions
Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure models align with system performance, scalability, and compliance constraints
Produce high-quality visual artifacts (ERDs, schema diagrams, lineage documentation, etc.) for technical and executive audiences
Advise clients on industry best practices related to data architecture, modeling approaches, metadata management, and data quality
Support proposals, design reviews, and long-term modernization roadmaps

Required

Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
10+ years of hands-on, professional data modeling experience (enterprise systems, data warehouses, cloud, or analytics environments)
Advanced proficiency with major modeling tools (ERwin, ER/Studio, Lucidscale, SQL Power Architect, etc.)
Deep knowledge of relational, dimensional, and NoSQL modeling techniques
Strong SQL skills and ability to validate data structures through queries
Experience working with complex datasets, legacy systems, or environments undergoing modernization
Proven ability to lead stakeholder discussions, synthesize requirements, and advocate for best practices
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present findings to executive-level audiences

Preferred

Experience supporting federal or DoD clients
Familiarity with data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK)
Experience with cloud-based architectures (AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse, BigQuery, etc.)
Exposure to API integrations, ETL/ELT patterns, and data engineering workflows
Understanding of human-centered design principles and how data structures support user needs
