Pool Operator-Swim Center
NEOGOV is looking for a new team member for the role of Pool Operator at the Canby Swim Center. The position involves the operation and maintenance of pool mechanical systems, instructing classes, overseeing activities, and ensuring safety and compliance with health standards.

Responsibilities
Maintain the Swim Center to ensure that all equipment, systems, buildings, and grounds are in good working condition and meet public health standards and all safety requirements
Regulate water temperature and levels. Maintain flow rates and chemical water balance, as required by the Oregon Health Authority, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), City, and County codes, at the Swim Center facilities
Develop, schedule, and perform preventative, corrective, and major maintenance, repair, and inspections of pools, equipment, and buildings to ensure safety and preservation of the swim center. Perform and monitor duties including water testing, general cleaning, opening/closing of facilities, equipment setup, and operations and cleanup of rentals, programs, and special events
Participate in planning, selection and purchasing of maintenance supplies, materials, and program equipment. Solicit quotes and competitive bids from suppliers and contractors for supplies and services as needed. Monitor and maintain inventory related to area of responsibility. Assess facility needs and make budget recommendations to keep the swim center operating in a safe and efficient manner
Address risk management issues, including facility safety, staff and patron safety, daily maintenance training, and general liability issues. Coordinate with the City’s Risk Manager as needed
Teach basic swim lessons approved by the Canby Swim Center. Provide a training atmosphere that promotes inclusion and satisfaction of all participants. Teach school lessons as needed. Conduct educational classes, and recreational, fitness and safety programs and activities as needed
Respond to emergency situations; rescue persons in distress or in danger of drowning. If necessary, administer CPR/First Aid. Prepare and submit accident/incident reports
Complete applicable reports and records
Assist lifeguards as needed in the absence of the Swim Center Manager. Participate in in-service training, orientations and other staff meetings as requested
Follow all safety rules and procedures for work areas
Assist at the front desk as needed. Greet the public; provide information and assistance regarding schedules, registration, program descriptions and other general information over the phone and in person. Accept and receipt payments from customers. Account for daily cash and prepare deposits for the Swim Center
Perform general housekeeping duties and repairs in and around the Swim Center facilities as needed
Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, co-workers and the general public
Provide excellent internal and external customer service in person and over the phone. Create a positive experience for patrons through professional and courteous behavior. Represent the City in a positive and professional manner. Respond to questions from citizens and visitors. Direct visitors to desired locations. Provide general assistance as needed. Maintain cooperative working relationships with City staff, other organizations and the general public. Respect diversity in the workplace

Qualification
Required
Equivalent to high school education
Two years of experience performing comprehensive building and mechanical operations, maintenance and repairs which includes operating and maintaining a commercial swimming pool; plus lifeguard experience
Or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties
Possession of current/valid Lifeguard Training/CPR/AED certifications
Possession of a current/valid Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Instructor certification
Preferred
Previous experience with pool operation and maintenance in a public swimming pool
Possession of a current, valid Lifeguard Instructor certification or ability to obtain within twelve months
Benefits
Retirement: The City of Canby participates in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and Oregon Public Service Retirement Plan (OPSRP). The City pays the employees share of 6% of employee’s salary into the plan. The City participates in the PERS Sick Leave Provision and reports accrued/unused sick leave to PERS after the sick leave retirement benefit has been calculated (refer to Sick Leave).
Deferred Compensation: The City offers several options for participation in a 457 deferred comp plan. Participation is voluntary and contributions are made by the employee.
Vacation: Paid vacation is based on length of service (the accrual rate per pay period is the annual rate divided by the total number of pay periods). All regular employees who have been employed with the City for at least six (6) months are eligible for vacation benefits. The maximum vacation accrual limit is 280 hours.
Comp Time: Employees may elect additional time off from work in lieu of payment for overtime work performed. Maximum accrual allowed is sixty (80) hours. Employees have the option to cash out up to eighty hours of accrued unused comp time twice (2) per fiscal year.
Longevity: Employees become eligible for longevity pay in the amount of one and a half percent (1.5%) of the base salary after completing eight (8) years of continuous employment with the City of Canby. Employees become eligible for longevity pay in the amount of two percent (2%) of their base salary after completing fifteen (15) years of continuous employment with the City.
Holidays: Employees are compensated for 13 holidays per year.
Sick Leave: Employees earn ninety six (96) hours of sick leave annually (the accrual rate per pay period is the annual rate divided by the total number of pay periods).
Funeral Leave: In the event of a death in the employee's immediate family, employee is entitled leave of absence with pay up to three (3) working days as may be necessary.
Family Medical Leave: Family, medical, and parental leave will be granted in accordance with all applicable state and federal law and the City of Canby policy.
Health & Welfare: Refer to Collective Bargaining Agreement for current language regarding health insurance benefits.
Disability Benefits: Workers Compensation – All employees are covered by Worker’s Compensation. This type of insurance covers employees in case of on-the-job injuries or job-related illnesses.
Life Insurance – The City provides life insurance in the amount of one and one-half (1 ½) times an employee’s annual salary (maximum $150,000).
AD&D – The City provides Accidental Death & Dismemberment insurance in the amount of one and one-half (1 ½) times an employee’s annual salary (maximum $150,000).
LTD – The City provides a program of long term disability insurance.
Supplemental Life Options and Short Term Disability – Available for purchase by employee. City does not contribute.
Flexible Spending Account (FSA): An FSA allows an employee to set aside a portion of earnings to pay for qualified medical or dependent care expenses.
