Responsibilities
Perform visual inspections of welds to identify defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut, incomplete fusion, and incorrect weld size
Verify welds meet applicable codes and standards (AWS, AISC, customer specs, and internal quality requirements)
Interpret weld symbols, blueprints, and fabrication drawings
Measure weld size using gauges and inspection tools
Document inspection results and maintain accurate quality records
Communicate nonconformance issues to welders, supervisors, and quality management
Verify corrective actions and re-inspect completed repairs
Support audits and quality reviews as needed
Follow all safety policies and procedures during inspections
Qualification
Required
Prior experience as a welding inspector or weld quality inspector
Strong knowledge of welding processes (MIG, FCAW, SMAW, SAW preferred)
Ability to identify weld types and defects
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols
Familiarity with AWS welding standards
Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
Ability to work night shift and in a fabrication shop environment
Preferred
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent (preferred)
Structural steel fabrication experience a MUST
Experience with NDT methods (VT required; MT/PT a plus)
