Responsibilities

Evaluate PDF documents for compliance with accessibility guidelines, including WCAG, Section 508, and other applicable standards

Remediate and correct PDF documents to make them fully accessible to screen readers and assistive technologies using tools like Adobe Acrobat Pro, PAC (PDF Accessibility Checker), and CommonLook

Insert proper accessibility tags (e.g., headings, lists, tables, images) and ensure logical reading order in PDFs

Add and edit alt text for images and other graphical elements

Maintain document structure and visual integrity while ensuring conformance with accessibility requirements

Stay up-to-date on accessibility standards, best practices, and appropriate testing tools

Collaborate with content creators, designers, and other stakeholders to remediate documents and ensure accessibility requirements are incorporated at the source

Test remediated PDFs with assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers)

Provide recommendations and guidance on accessible document creation and remediation processes

Required

Bachelor's degree in areas applicable to the position's description and needs (or equivalent years of experience)

5+ years of relevant experience in Testing, UI/UX, Usability, Accessibility/Section 508, or some combination thereof

Strong understanding of accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1, Section 508 compliance, and PDF/UA standards

Proficiency in PDF remediation tools, particularly Adobe Acrobat Pro accessibility features and PAC (PDF Accessibility Checker)

Experience assessing and editing PDF tagging structures, reading order, and image alt text

Knowledge of assistive technologies, such as JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver, and their interoperability with screen readers

Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple projects with deadlines

Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Ability to work independently and collaboratively with clients, internal teams, and stakeholders

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with subject matter experts to conduct research, resolve issues, and develop recommendations

IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC)

IAAP Accessible Document Specialist (ADS)
