Engineer II 2025-02373
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a motivated and skilled Engineer II to join their team in Rawlins, Wyoming. This role involves contributing to the state’s transportation infrastructure by overseeing highway projects, ensuring compliance with regulations, and collaborating with team members on project planning and execution.

Responsibilities
Issues, reviews, comments, and revises plan sets
Reviews and approves or rejects project submittals/permits
Reviews and updates forms and documentation procedures regarding construction activities and pay quantities
Inspects and assures projects/facilities are completed according to plans, specifications, design criteria, and budgetary constraints
Compiles and submits engineering recommendations and summaries for designing various projects/facilities with varying levels of complexity
Conducts extensive research on existing and evolving technologies
Provides technical guidance, advice, and oversight
Works in direct contact with contractors and subcontractors daily in the management of projects under construction
Deals with landowners, traveling public, local, county, state, and federal government entities in the same context
Performs field inspections, laboratory testing, materials analysis, and quality control
Develops engineering models, conducts studies, makes cost estimates, and submits reports, summaries, and other required documentation
Reviews and evaluates the work of assigned engineering technicians
Performs inspections and testing to ensure the contractor is constructing the project according to plans, specifications, etc
The contractor provides the necessary information to construct a project (showing a project and interpreting plans)
Calculates and documents quantities for payment to the contractor
Examines and verifies numeric data and specifications on source documents by recalculating computations using geometry or trigonometry
Resolves geometric and trigonometric problems encountered during the process of making detailed engineering drawings
Review construction plans and verify that these are in accordance with designated specifications and other requirements
Conduct field engineering surveys, including operating a level, operating a total station, GPS, and make decisions to solve problems
Checks and verifies the accuracy of detailed project drawings and makes corrections in drawings if necessary
Design preliminary work, calculating land areas, earth forms, circular curves, material quantities, and other qualitative measurements using geometric and trigonometric computations
Trains other personnel in engineering and surveying and trains personnel on proper fieldwork documentation techniques
Coordinate with the contractor, other agencies, and the public when a project impacts them
Oversees moderate to major construction projects by documenting pay quantities, directing the work schedule of subordinates, and working with a contractor for quality control
Ensures materials sampling and testing are performed properly; audits material summaries for QA/QC purposes
Prepares water agreements, materials agreements, and other necessary agreements
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree (in Engineering)
0-3 years of progressive work experience (in Engineering) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Engineer I
Engineer in Training (EIT) License or Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) Required
Valid Driver's License
QC/QA Certification in Soils & Aggregate, Asphalt, and Concrete
