Responsibilities
Maintain positivity and resiliency while providing oversite of the daily operations of subordinate dispatch personnel
Model the highest level of professionalism, compassion, and support to individuals contacted in the line of duty. This includes, but is not limited to, the public, field enforcement units, civilian staff, other agencies, and coworkers
Display the ability to perform all duties of subordinate staff
Train, mentor, build, and lead a high performing team of individuals with varied backgrounds in a high stress, fast-paced, always changing environment
Qualification
Required
Three years of experience as an Emergency Services Dispatcher 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere
Ability to work shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Ability to communicate effectively with others in stressful or emergency situations
Ability to train, lead, build, and direct teams with positive interpersonal skills
Specific positions in this job class may require incumbents to be Emergency Medical, Police, or Firefighting Dispatch certified
Communications Training Officer Certification (or the ability to obtain this certification within 6 months of hire) is a requirement for this position
This job class requires individuals to multitask and maintain emotional control and composure to work effectively during emergencies, crisis situations, and/or extremely stressful conditions
A typing test demonstrating the ability to type 40 words per minute must be submitted with the application
List of three (3) professional references, two of which are from a current or former direct supervisor
This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check
The successful candidate will be required to read, understand, and agree to via signature, an agreement of confidentiality concerning the work commonly encountered within the Department of Public Safety
