Responsibilities
Design and implement a comprehensive development strategy to secure public sector, foundation, and corporate funding
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with key funders and strategic partners
Lead the full grant lifecycle, including prospecting, proposal development, compliance, and reporting
Build and manage internal systems for donor tracking, reporting, and impact measurement
Develop stewardship and recognition strategies that build trust, transparency, and long-term engagement
Partner cross-functionally to create compelling materials, presentations, and impact reports that connect funders to outcomes
Collaborate closely with executive leadership and program teams to align fundraising priorities with organizational strategy
Engage the Board of Directors and advisory groups to strengthen philanthropic participation and fundraising capacity
Represent SomerCor externally at meetings, conferences, and community events
Develop strategic partnerships—with economic development organizations, government agencies, and business support groups—for co-programming and funding opportunities
Stay current on trends in philanthropy, community development, and small business finance to identify emerging opportunities
Foster a culture of philanthropy across the organization by helping staff understand the role of storytelling, outcomes, and donor engagement in advancing the mission
Qualification
Required
7–10 years of progressive experience in nonprofit development, philanthropy, fundraising, or institutional partnerships, including leadership responsibility
Demonstrated success securing funding from public sector sources, foundations, and corporate partners
Strong grant writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex programs into compelling narratives
Experience building or scaling development infrastructure, including donor management systems and reporting processes
Strategic relationship builder with experience stewarding long-term partnerships with funders, government agencies, and community stakeholders
Executive-level collaboration experience with CEOs, senior leadership teams, and Boards of Directors
Board engagement experience, including supporting fundraising and external relationship-building
Cross-functional leadership experience working with finance, programs, communications, and operations teams
Familiarity with funding models related to economic development, small business support, workforce development, housing, or community finance
Comfortable representing an organization publicly and externally
Highly organized, systems-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
Willingness to travel periodically throughout Illinois and neighboring states. Valid drivers license required
