State Director, New Hampshire (P4)

Save the Children Action Network is the political advocacy arm of Save the Children, working to ensure every child has a strong start in life. The State Director in New Hampshire will lead legislative and electoral campaigns, manage staff, and engage with coalitions and funders to support the organization's mission.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Senior Director, State & Electoral Campaigns, East to identify state legislative opportunities to expand access to early childhood education and child nutrition programs. Lead campaigns to win state legislative victories
Serve as the organization’s lobbyist in the state, meeting with lawmakers and submitting all lobbying reporting and compliance
In partnership with the National Campaigns and Government Relations teams, engage members of Congress on policy priorities. This could include meeting with members directly or preparing volunteers to meet with them
In partnership with the Senior Director, State & Electoral Campaigns, East, manage our electoral work in the state, including crafting candidate questionnaires, researching candidates, and making endorsement recommendations
Serve as a media spokesperson for the organization in the state
Partner in-state early learning and hunger coalitions to support policy agendas
Identify and engage key grasstops leaders to engage them in campaign priorities
Manage an organizer in-state, working collaboratively to ensure their grassroots’ organizing work is driving organizational policy and electoral goals
Train, develop, coach, lead, and supervise staff, clearly communicating organization, division and department priorities, and how their work contributes to our mission, ensuring that the working environment continually fosters diversity, inclusion, and belonging – supporting Save the Children values
In partnership with SCAN’s Resource Development team, identify potential funders for our work in the state
Cultivate relationships with existing funders, showcasing our work and identifying ways to engage them in our work
Draft inputs for funder proposals and pitch memos

Required

Minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience
Direct lobbying experience
Previous experience with legislative and/or electoral campaigns, including legislative and electoral campaign development and execution
Experience working in coalitions
Experience building relationships with key stakeholders
Staff management
Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
Professional proficiency in spoken and written English

Preferred

Understanding of community organizing and grassroots engagement
Significant experience in New Hampshire's legislative process and political landscape
Previous experience with financial reporting and compliance and/or general understanding of the legal requirements and restrictions of 501c3/c4 organizations
Previous experience speaking on the record or experience being a spokesperson
Experience with identifying and engaging donors
