Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and maintenance of full-stack application features using Next.js , Elixir (Phoenix/LiveView) , Python , and Postgres

Partner closely with the CTO to define architectural direction, evaluate tradeoffs, and create scalable, maintainable system designs

Provide hands-on technical leadership by reviewing code, mentoring junior engineers, and establishing best practices for code quality, testing, and reliability

Drive technical decision-making and participate in planning, scoping, and system design discussions

Translate complex requirements into performant, secure, and well-structured solutions

Improve backend APIs, data models, and service boundaries to support growth and evolving product needs

Build high-quality user experiences using Next.js, optimizing for performance, accessibility, and maintainability

Debug and resolve production issues across the stack, working collaboratively across teams

Act as an advocate for engineering excellence—maintaining high standards for architecture, documentation, testing, and operational readiness

Work closely with our designer and research & operations teams to deliver features that are reliable, intuitive, and aligned with business goals

Required

5+ years of professional full-stack engineering experience, ideally in SaaS or similar production environments

Strong proficiency in modern frontend development practices like React. Next.js proficiency is a plus

Deep experience with at least one backend language (Elixir, Python, Node, etc.), and willingness to work heavily in Elixir and Python

Solid understanding of relational database design, SQL performance, and working with Postgres at scale

Demonstrated experience designing and implementing complex systems, APIs, and data flows

Strong debugging skills and ability to diagnose issues across front-end, back-end, and infrastructure layers

Experience participating in or guiding architecture discussions and technical decision-making

Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred

Experience working with Elixir/Phoenix in production environments

Experience building observability into systems (logging, metrics, tracing, alerting)

Familiarity with containerized and orchestrated environments

Knowledge of distributed systems patterns and scaling strategies

Experience mentoring engineers, leading projects, or influencing cross-team technical direction

Familiarity with DevOps tooling and best practices for CI/CD pipelines

Experience in a startup or similarly fast-paced environment

Interest in application security, reliability engineering, and performance optimization
