Responsibilities
Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan including individual giving, corporate sponsorships, grants, events, and planned giving
Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners
Oversee planning and execution of major fundraising events such as the Paws for Celebration Gala, Paws in the Park, The Big Give, Giving Tuesday, Putts for Paws, and other donor engagement activities
Manage donor recognition and communications, ensuring consistent stewardship and impact reporting
Partner with the Executive Director and Board on major gift cultivation and capital campaign efforts
Supervise the grants calendar, proposal submissions, and reporting, in partnership with grant writers (if applicable) and the Executive Director
Oversee all marketing, media relations, and public communications to build SAPA!’s brand awareness and visibility
Manage digital marketing strategy including website, email campaigns, and social media platforms
Develop compelling storytelling campaigns highlighting SAPA!’s lifesaving impact, adoption success stories, and donor contributions
Serve as SAPA!’s media liaison (along with the Executive Director) for local TV, radio, and print opportunities (e.g., SA Living segments)
Lead design and production of collateral materials including brochures, newsletters, press releases, and digital ads
Ensure brand consistency across all SAPA! communications, merchandise, and public materials
Supervise and mentor development and marketing staff (e.g., Development Manager, Marketing Strategist, and additional coordinators, contractors, and interns)
Collaborate across departments—with particular emphasis on Adoptions—to highlight impact stories and funding needs
Expense management to maximize revenue , ensuring marketing and development investments are aligned with clearly identified and measurable revenue opportunities rather than discretionary spending without defined return
Strong negotiation and vendor management capabilities , ensuring pricing, contracts, and deliverables are closely managed to control costs and maximize organizational value
Establishing an annual marketing and development plan with clearly defined monthly goals and performance metrics to track progress, accountability, and results
Provide monthly reports on fundraising performance, donor trends, and marketing reach to the Executive Director and Board
Strong understanding of and ability to effectively network within the San Antonio community , leveraging relationships to advance organizational visibility, partnerships, and fundraising
Represent SAPA! at community events, speaking engagements, and media opportunities
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, or related field
Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising and marketing, preferably in animal welfare
Demonstrated success securing major gifts, sponsorships, and grants
Strong experience with event planning, donor management software (e.g., Bloomerang, Salesforce, DonorPerfect), and CRM analytics
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; adept at storytelling and public speaking
Proficiency with digital marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp, Canva, Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics)
Creative, detail-oriented, and mission-driven leader who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
