Supervisor - Communications

Responsibilities
Supervise the daily work of the Communication Services team, supporting functions such as graphic design, print, and mail by assigning work, providing coaching and support, guiding workflow, and ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality completion of communication support activities. Promote a collaborative, respectful, and service-oriented environment that encourages creativity, continuous improvement, and professional growth
Support internal communication by developing and producing materials that enhance employee understanding of District initiatives, strategic priorities, and organizational changes. Create digital and multimedia content, including video, intranet updates, newsletters, and employee-facing campaigns, to strengthen engagement and connection to the District’s mission, values and strategic priorities. Assist leadership in communicating key messages clearly and consistently
Contribute to external communication and public outreach efforts by preparing and coordinating accurate, timely content for digital platforms, publications and reports. Develop the District’s social media and digital marketing efforts, leveraging emerging tools and technologies to enhance audience reach and engagement. Support communication response during outages, emergencies, and sensitive issues, including participating in on-call rotations and assisting with public information responsibilities as needed
Apply Chelan PUD’s brand standards across print, digital, and multimedia materials to ensure consistency and alignment with the District’s visual identity. Maintain brand resources, support the development of new design tools and templates, and review creative materials to ensure they reflect organizational expectations and communication objectives
Assist the Communications Manager with planning, scheduling, and coordinating communication activities and departmental priorities. Track feedback and metrics to help evaluate communication effectiveness; recommend improvements; participate in District-wide committees and initiatives; and support the adoption of new tools, technologies, and approaches that improve communication efficiency, quality, and accessibility. Serve as a back-up to the Communications Manager as needed
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Graphic Design, Digital Media, English, or a related field is required
Equivalent experience (year for year) may substitute for required education
5+ years of experience developing internal and external communication materials, including digital and multimedia content, is required
Strong knowledge of internal and external communication practices, including writing, editing, storytelling, and tailoring messages for diverse audiences
Knowledge of brand strategy and visual communication principles, including the use of templates, style guides, and consistent design standards
Skill in producing digital, multimedia, and print communication materials, including experience with video content, intranet updates, newsletters, and social media content and management
Proficiency with graphic design and digital media tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite, photo and video editing tools, and web content management systems
Ability to translate complex or technical information into clear, understandable messages for employees, customers, and community members
Strong organizational, project coordination, and time-management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines
Effective supervisory and coaching skills, with the ability to support staff performance, assign work, and encourage collaboration and creativity
Skill in coordinating communication workflows, managing deadlines, and overseeing budgets, supplies, and inventory
Knowledge of print, mail and graphics equipment functions and safety requirements, with the ability to assist staff in problem-solving and maintaining smooth operations
Knowledge of crisis communication practices and the Incident Command System (ICS) and the ability to assist with communication needs during outages, emergencies, or sensitive situations
Ability to collaborate effectively with departments, partners, and leadership to support consistent, accurate, strategic, and high-quality communication efforts
Commitment to innovation and continuous improvement, including learning and applying new communication tools, technologies, and methods
Demonstrated ability to foster inclusion, teamwork, professionalism, and integrity in communication and working relationships
Must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English
A valid driver's license is required for this position (verified upon hire)
A valid Washington State driver's license is required within 30 days of employment
