Responsibilities

Actively participate in the development and implementation of the university’s human resources strategy
Lead initiatives to enhance human resources service delivery, compliance, and operational excellence
Develop and maintain effective and positive relationships with stakeholders inside and outside of the institution
As a member of the senior HR team and individually, develop enhancements to HR policies, procedures, and programs and participate as a key contributor to policy and program development and refinement, all in alignment with the university’s mission and strategic goals
Work closely with senior leadership and HR professionals across the institution to ensure consistent, coordinated execution of high quality HR programs, policies and services, and well executed HR strategy, in support of the university and school/unit mission
Collaborate across VCU HR teams to provide career development opportunities, utilize the vast talent that exists within internal teams, and invite varying perspectives to implement strategic and innovative solutions
Supervise director-level positions within the HR department, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture focused on excellence and service
Oversee the day-to-day operations of various HR functions, including HR service delivery, compliance, benefits, leave and executive search
Ensure efficient and effective delivery of HR services to faculty, staff, and senior leadership
Lead efforts to streamline work processes and maximize time and capacity of staff
As a member of the senior leadership team, align the delivery of assigned operations with other HR functions in order to ensure optimal performance
Monitor and analyze HR metrics to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement
Provide reports and feedback to schools/units on local HR performance
Create avenues for the collection of feedback on VCU HR performance
Foster a positive work environment at VCU and promote a culture of care, appreciation, inclusivity, respect, belonging, and collaboration
Participate in the development and implementation of strategies designed to strengthen university compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, as well as university policies
Lead change management in support of university initiatives
Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to protect the university’s interests, as well as best practices that strengthen the consistency and quality of HR service delivery across the university

Required

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field or the experience and skills equivalent to a Bachelor's degree required
Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably at a higher education institution
Demonstrated experience in strategic HR planning, operational HR management
Demonstrated success serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership
Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to develop, motivate and inspire a team with a broad range of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences
Knowledge of process management, operational excellence principles and practices for optimizing usage of technology
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels
Deep knowledge of HR best practices, laws and regulations shaping HR programs, and regulatory compliance
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment
High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion
Demonstrated ability to work and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred

Master's degree or advanced certification in HR (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) preferred
