Analyst I - Sales Tax
City of Colorado Springs is seeking a Sales Tax Analyst to join their innovative team. The role involves data analysis to ensure businesses meet their sales tax obligations and improve decision-making through actionable insights.

Responsibilities
Gather and structure data from various sources, including databases, spreadsheets, and external businesses that collect and remit sales tax, to support data integrity
Examine and interpret sales tax records from businesses to identify patterns, discrepancies, and trends, providing actionable insights that guide decision-making
Develop and implement best practices for data analysis, continuously improving how we collect, audit, and manage tax-related data
Conduct regular audits and perform quality checks to ensure accuracy and compliance with sales tax regulations
Create ad-hoc reports to answer specific operational questions and prepare weekly or monthly summaries to support cross-functional areas, ensuring data-driven decisions are made across the organization
Conduct detailed reviews of construction-related tax data, including economic incentives, tax exemptions, refunds, and compliance audits
Verify the accuracy of amended tax returns and refund requests, ensuring compliance with all regulations and policies
Support the transition to a new Sales Tax system by assisting with data integrity, reconciliations, and ensuring the system is operating properly
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related area of study
One year of full-time, professional experience in a related field
Preferred
Experience working in compliance or accounting/finance
Experience working in federal, state or local government
Intermediate or above Excel proficiency
