Director of Technology
Asian Americans for Civil Rights & Equality (AACRE) is focused on long-term movement building and leadership support for Asian Americans committed to social justice. The Director of Technology will lead the technology department, overseeing hardware, software, and network systems, while ensuring that technology resources align with organizational goals and enhance collaboration across the network.

Responsibilities
Provide vision and direction for technology infrastructure and policies across the AACRE network, ensuring that all systems are secure, scalable, and integrated to support both operational and mission-driven goals
Lead the design and implementation of technology strategy, governance, and policies to strengthen efficiency, reliability, and data integrity across the network
Develop and implement comprehensive cybersecurity and data protection policies and ensure compliance with standards for access, retention, and privacy
Oversee risk management and disaster recovery planning, proactively addressing vulnerabilities and system redundancy
Partner with AACRE departments and AACRE groups to identify and implement technology solutions that reduce manual work, streamline workflows, and empower staff
Ensure the effectiveness and integration of donor, communications, and advocacy databases and tools (including Salesforce and EveryAction), aligning data practices and syncing across platforms
Lead communications with AACRE network groups on key updates, emerging risks, and technology-related policies
Oversee technology department operations related to network installations, and hardware and software updates, for all AACRE groups and the CAA San Francisco Chinatown office
Lead technology department in providing technical support for time-sensitive projects, rapid response events, including supporting on individual requests as needed
Ensure all IT operations comply with applicable laws, codes, and regulations, and reflect the latest industry standards, rules, and best practices
Partner closely with other departments—including Finance, HR, and Administration—and with AACRE groups to prioritize technology solutions that improve effectiveness, coordination, compliance, and staff experience
Work collaboratively with department and group leaders to assess needs, translate them into actionable technology plans, and ensure solutions are designed for long-term usability and sustainability across the network
Collaborate with other supervisors and coordinate work across multiple teams focusing on technology implementation, adoption, and management across the network
Serve as a key internal leader contributing to AACRE’s strategic and operational planning and implementation, ensuring technology decisions align with organizational goals and culture
Drive long-term technology planning aligned with organizational growth, ensuring systems and tools evolve with program and advocacy needs
Contribute to cross-organizational initiatives and planning efforts that advance AACRE’s mission and strengthen shared infrastructure
Oversee and supervise the Donor Database & IT Manager position including assigning and directing work, setting clear expectations, providing guidance and mentoring, and offering regular feedback
Manage and develop staff to ensure operational excellence, efficiency, and consistently high-quality performance across all functions
Develop and implement team goals, resolve complex issues within team, address conflicts, foster collaboration, and make significant decisions that impact team operations
Ensure that supervisory practices align with organizational policies, provide developmental and corrective feedback, and implement AACRE guidelines for progressive discipline if necessary
Manage team members’ development plans, provide direct feedback, and conduct performance evaluations regularly
Support team members to meet objectives, encourage skill development, and promote a practice of collaboration, innovation, and accountability
Oversee technology department-related contracts, vendors, and consultants (e.g., Salesforce, EveryAction, IT Help Desk), ensuring deliverables, compliance, and service quality
Develop and manage the technology department budget, monitor expenses, and align resource allocation with strategic priorities
Collaborate with senior leadership on financial planning and reporting related to technology infrastructure and grants
Identify, pursue, and manage technology-related funding opportunities, including grants and contracts
Oversee onboarding and ongoing support and training for select staff into database platforms such as Salesforce and EveryAction
Lead informed decision-making processes and training on technology systems, data structures, import and export and import of data, and template reporting
Contribute to fundraising and development activities for the organization as needed
Perform administrative duties as required for position
Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission of the organization
Contribute to positive work environment in alignment with organizational values
Qualification
Required
Experience working with or deep familiarity with nonprofit organizations and social justice movements, particularly those serving Asian American, immigrant, and other communities of color
At least 5 years of significant leadership in technology systems, IT infrastructure, or cybersecurity
2+ years of experience supervising a team of one or more people
Proven ability in project management, particularly managing multiple complex projects simultaneously and balancing competing priorities
Ability to think strategically, operationalize vision, problem solve, exercise good judgment and lead the network through ongoing improvements and change
Experience building and leading highly effective departments or teams, including cross-functional teams
Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to simplify complex or technical concepts into universally understandable terms
Strong commitment to AACRE's mission and values
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area and able to work in person for meetings, gatherings, or events, as needed
