Laboratory Manager

Responsibilities

Oversight of laboratory instrumentation and maintaining instrument charts
Supervision of staff to meet throughput and turnaround times; assist with hiring and training staff
Revision and development of radioanalytical and inorganic analysis methods and enhancement of instrumentation performance
Successful reporting of required Performance Evaluation Sample Analysis Programs
Maintain effective communications concerning characterization efforts internal to the laboratory and with the project team
Review and evaluate data obtained by in house methods to ensure that they meet the quality requirements associated with regulatory programs and project measurement quality objectives
Routine communication and coordination with Data Management Group (DMG) management and staff to ensure overall project data objective(s) are satisfied
Collaborate with other scientists and technical personnel in a fast-paced, flexible work environment
Utilize Windows based personal computers, instrumentation operation, data reporting, analytical calculations, and sample management
Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements
Maintain strong dedication to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or closely related field with 5+ years' experience in set up and operational management of a Radiochemistry laboratory, or closely related lab experience
Familiarity with industry environmental data validation practices/policies/procedures
Familiar with radiological, inorganic and organic laboratory methods, QA/QC elements and record keeping
Proficient with computer software programs including spreadsheets, database, and other Microsoft Office products
Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation including radiological counting systems and ICP/MS
Further education beyond initial scientific degree, viz. data validation practices, quality assurance/control courses, statistics
Due to contract requirements, U.S. citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status is required
Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance
Ability to obtain training and passing BeLPT blood test and medical exam for working in a Beryllium environment
Ability and willingness to work various shifts
Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred

Masters in Chemistry, Radiochemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, or a related discipline
Prior experience with Beryllium sample analysis using ICP-MS and Optical Fluorescence
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with modern sample preparation and separation methods used in the isotopic and elemental characterization with emphases on nuclear and inorganic materials
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory
Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
Maintain training requirements and qualification for Radiation Worker II, HAZWOPER, and Beryllium worker training including the BeLPT
Working knowledge of DoD DOE Quality Systems Manual Requirements and experience with performing/undergoing ELAP, AIHA, and/or DOECAP audits
