Civil Engineer / Senior Civil Engineer - Public Works
City of Tempe is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer in their Public Works department. The successful candidate will manage complex engineering projects from conception to design completion, overseeing project budgets and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure project success.
Responsibilities
Interprets and provides technical reviews of plans and specifications for projects as well as engineering solutions in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
Manage all aspects of Capital Improvement Program project delivery
Prepares cost estimates and project budgets
Communicates and coordinates regularly with consultants, contractors, other City employees, management, public, and vendors to complete projects.
Provides technical support and recommendations to City management in engineering-related areas involving water, wastewater, streets, transportation, storm drain, structural, building systems and parks
Participates in consultant or contractor qualifications-based selection; evaluates consultant proposals and negotiates scope and fees for public infrastructure projects within defined budget
Administers contracts to prepare studies, reports, plans and specifications for permitting, bidding and construction; prepares addendums during bidding, answers bidders’ questions and evaluates bids
Qualification
Required
2 years of experience in civil engineering, project management or related experience for Civil Engineer
4 years of experience in civil engineering, project management, or related experience for Senior Civil Engineer
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or related field for both Civil Engineer and Senior Civil Engineer
Valid Driver's License for both Civil Engineer and Senior Civil Engineer
Professional Engineer (PE) License in Arizona or reciprocity within 6 months for Senior Civil Engineer
Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant's full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience
