Responsibilities
Design, implement, and operate Node.js backend services (TypeScript preferred) in a microservices and event-driven architecture (Kafka/RabbitMQ), focusing on performance, resilience, and observability
Build secure, versioned REST and GraphQL APIs; enforce schema governance, pagination, depth/complexity limits, and query timeouts
Optimize request paths, I/O, and concurrency; avoid blocking the event loop; instrument and profile services (APM, metrics, tracing)
Implement robust data access layers (PostgreSQL/Timeseries/NoSQL), caching (Redis), and message workflows (Kafka consumer groups, idempotency, DLQs)
Ship to AWS/EKS with CI/CD; containerize with Docker; design for scale, low latency, and high availability (multi-AZ patterns)
Enforce security best practices (OWASP/Node), secret management, input validation, rate limiting, and dependency hygiene. If payments-adjacent, align with PCI DSS controls
Partner with PM/BA, front-end (React) and data/quant teams; translate business requirements into production-ready APIs and workflows with crisp stakeholder communication
Qualification
Required
6–10+ years total engineering, 5+ years Node.js (production services at scale). Deep understanding of Node's async I/O and event loop characteristics
Strong TypeScript, API design (REST & GraphQL), schema/versioning, and contract testing
Proven experience building microservices and event-driven systems with Kafka/RabbitMQ (exactly-once semantics patterns, idempotency, correlation IDs)
SQL fluency (PostgreSQL or similar), caching (Redis), and performance profiling/optimization in production
Cloud-native delivery on AWS (Docker/Kubernetes, CI/CD, observability—metrics, logs, tracing) with HA/DR patterns for latency-sensitive services
Excellent communication and stakeholder-facing skills; comfort engaging PMs, traders, risk/treasury SMEs, and external partners
Preferred
Financial markets/hedge fund exposure (trade lifecycle, market data, risk, treasury cash management)
Experience with streaming/CEP, time series storage, or pricing/risk engines; GraphQL federation; API gateways
Security/compliance familiarity (OWASP Top 10, npm supply-chain, PCI DSS alignment where relevant)
