Project Engineer II, DPW

The Town of Barnstable is seeking a Project Engineer II for their Department of Public Works (DPW). This role involves providing professional engineering services for various DPW projects, including infrastructure and environmental management.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Provides professional, technical, research, sampling, data collection, and administrative work on a variety of projects within the DPW
Conducting research, data collection, performing evaluations, planning, design, construction inspection, survey, contracting, project management, and contract management; all other related work as required

Required

A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
Class D drivers license
Ability to obtain Drinking Water and Wastewater operator licenses as required by the specific Project Engineer position held within the DPW
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering
Working knowledge of state and local regulations pertaining to the design, construction, and repair of DPW infrastructure
Working knowledge of state and local procurement regulations and policies
Working knowledge of federal, state and local environmental regulations and policies
Knowledge of engineering related computer application programs
Ability to prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates and contract documents for construction projects
Ability to write and communicate effectively, prepare reports and maintain accurate records
Ability to work independently, respond to difficult and sensitive public inquiries and maintain tactfulness and courtesy in high stress situations
Ability to maintain accurate records, operate a computer, including word processing and spreadsheet applications
Ability to work in a close-knit, team environment
Proficiency in the use of computers including word processing, spreadsheets, database, and engineering, drafting and design software
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with individuals and groups

Preferred

five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in engineering, survey, or construction
Massachusetts Professional Engineer certificate
