Sr Analyst, Operations Modeling and Analytics

Responsibilities
Lead the development and enhancement of simulation models to evaluate operational scenarios, assess schedule robustness, and improve efficiency across airport, airspace, and ATC environments
Build and maintain discrete-event and agent-based simulation frameworks using tools such as AirTOP, SIMMOD, Arena, SIMIO, or similar platforms
Design and implement simulation experiments to test operational strategies, quantify risk, and identify bottlenecks under varying conditions
Collaborate with Ops Planning and Network Planning teams to simulate flight schedules and assess impacts on reliability and resource utilization
Integrate simulation outputs with predictive analytics and optimization models to provide holistic decision support
Communicate simulation findings effectively to stakeholders, translating complex results into actionable insights for operational and strategic planning
Stay current with advances in simulation methodologies, including stochastic modeling, Monte Carlo techniques, and hybrid simulation approaches
Builds and maintain decision support models using simulation and/or statistical techniques
Assist with the flight schedule development, design and evaluation process by developing quantitative tools that address operational efficiency and robustness
Support the company's long term strategic and growth initiatives through simulation modeling and other related analysis
Communicate effectively with stakeholders across the company and promote data-driven decision making
Interface with IT departments, related business departments, and outside vendors to ensure coordinated planning, evaluation and implementation of new decision support systems
Research current practices and industry trends, generate options for improvement, test new ideas and help the business unit with implementation. Benchmark American Airlines' performance versus other airlines and industries
Keep abreast of latest advances in analytic techniques and IT solutions that solve complex airline business problems
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline (Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Data Science, Applied Statistics, or related field)
3+ years of experience in simulation modeling and analysis
Proficiency in building simulation models using AirTOP, SIMMOD, Arena, SIMIO, or similar tools
Strong programming skills in Python, R, or Java for simulation automation and data integration
Experience with extraction, cleansing and analysis of large datasets to identify key trends and insights
Experience designing simulation experiments, analyzing outputs, and validating models against real-world data
Familiarity with optimization techniques (LP, MIP) and ability to integrate simulation with optimization frameworks
Knowledge of data visualization tools (Tableau or similar) for presenting simulation results
Excellent interpersonal, relational, and communication skills (both oral and written)
Strong analytical mindset with a passion for simulation-driven problem solving
Ability to manage multiple simulation projects, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing operational needs
Excellent communication skills to convey technical insights to non-technical audiences
Demonstrated ability to perform both independently and as a team member, handle multiple assignments and respond efficiently to changing priorities
Preferred
Domain knowledge in airline operations or transportation systems
Experience with Big Data integration for simulation input and calibration
Exposure to machine learning techniques for enhancing simulation accuracy and predictive capability
