Responsibilities
Independently perform a range of structural analyses, including:
Modal analysis
Random vibration analysis
High-level sine analysis
Shock analysis
Build and evaluate component-level and system-level finite element models (FEMs), including:
Importing and cleaning geometry
Defining boundary conditions and load cases
Selecting appropriate element types
Interpreting and exporting results
Apply meshing best practices, including mesh refinement, quality verification, and convergence assessment
Perform classical hand calculations and correlate results with FEM simulations to validate assumptions
Analyze typical aerospace hardware such as brackets, interconnects, fittings, and structural subassemblies
Demonstrate working knowledge of bolted joints, including modeling approaches and extraction of bolt forces from FEM results
Understand mechanical material properties and assess structural risks, margins, and failure modes associated with different materials
Convert analysis results into clear, concise technical reports suitable for internal design reviews, customer delivery, and qualification or certification documentation
Clearly explain assumptions, methodologies, results, and conclusions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Collaborate closely with design engineers to ensure hardware meets structural requirements and to influence designs early to reduce structural risk
Work with test engineers to:
Recommend accelerometer locations
Interpret gRMS curves and test spectra
Correlate analytical models to test data
Support root-cause investigations for test anomalies or failures
Translate system-level structural requirements into analysis inputs and boundary conditions, verify compliance with requirements, and clearly communicate analysis results
Provide technical guidance and informal mentoring to junior analysts as needed
Support continuous improvement of analysis methods, modeling practices, and reporting standards within the team
