Industrial Instrumentation & Controls Tech - Lead

The City of Boise is hiring an Industrial Instrumentation & Controls Tech - Lead for our Lander Street Wastewater Renewal Facility. This role involves leading the installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of industrial instrumentation and controls while supervising a small team and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

Coordinates day-to-day work, delegates tasks and sets deadlines for the assigned team
Provides guidance, direction and support for training and reviews work
Ensures effective collaboration with other teams
Listens to team members’ input and feedback and resolves any issues or conflicts
Leads and performs journey-level installation, calibration, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair on diverse types of industrial process instruments and control devices per regulatory codes, manufacturer’s specifications and site standards
Plans and executes complicated tasks requiring considerable judgement, independent analysis and research while considering assigned priority and potential impact to facility operations
Conducts verification and calibration processes on a broad array and type of measuring devices and instrumentation, including safety equipment, to ensure complete accuracy and viability
Creates and maintains detailed maintenance records utilizing computerized asset management programs, ensuring compliance with local, state and federal rules, regulations and laws
Analyzes and leads the collection and recording of equipment information and the development of maintenance schedules and procedures
Acts as lead, overseeing tasks, training new staff and providing guidance in the absence of a supervisor as required
Assists other skilled trades with the general operation, maintenance and repair of industrial wastewater equipment and facilities while providing advanced expertise on instrumentation and controls
Maintains a safe, clean and orderly work environment
Attends and completes assigned training as required to ensure compliance with city policy, state and federal regulation and maintain professional licensing and certification
Conducts daily, weekly, monthly and annual health checks and inspections on various instruments and controls to ensure proper maintenance and functionality
Initiates corrective actions and communication to others after evaluating risks and impacts to operation and/or data integrity
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

High school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience installing, repairing and maintaining industrial instrumentation and control systems, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Knowledge of wastewater operation and process control theory and practices
Knowledge of mechanical and electrical instrument systems and calibration methods
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures
Knowledge of multi-meters, process simulators, oscilloscopes, device and loop calibrators and Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
Knowledge of blueprints and circuit schematics reading and interpretation
Knowledge of city policies, procedures and protocols; operation/use of required equipment and tools
Knowledge of computer usage including related software
Ability to lead others by providing day-to-day tactical direction and managing daily workloads
Ability to effectively research, scope, execute, and complete complex maintenance, repair, and installation projects timely and with minimal adverse impacts to water treatment processes
Ability to troubleshoot electronic and pneumatic systems
Ability to maintain required certifications
Ability to communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance
Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record
Valid state-issued driver's license
Electrical Specialty Journey level License- Idaho Limited Energy, International Society of Automation Certified Control Systems Technician (ISA-CCST) or an International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians Certification (ISCET) or equivalent
Ability to obtain an Idaho Wastewater Treatment Class I License or Operator in Training (OIT) certificate within six months of employment
First Aid and CPR certification

Preferred

Associate's degree in instrumentation or similar discipline
Nine years of advanced experience installing, repairing and maintaining industrial instrumentation and control systems
Demonstrated understanding of wastewater treatment plant processes
Two years of experience leading a small team
Four years of experience with asset/maintenance software
