Receptionist II-Laboratory

Responsibilities

Performs reception duties; receives incoming, outgoing and inter-office calls; ascertains needs of caller; obtains and records necessary information; triages calls or takes messages; gives limited non-confidential information as well as confidential laboratory results to medical staff; calls prioritized lab results to ordering person using Laboratory Information System
Assures confidentiality of all patient information
Receives, gathers, computes, records, and compiles information and data for routine or special reports, records, and statistics
Sorts and distributes laboratory reports; maintains files
Requests or requisitions materials and supplies to assure adequate inventory
Accesses data using CRT/keyboard computer terminals
Operates, maintains, and uses microfilm camera; organizes, sorts and verifies source documents for microfilming; retrieves and verifies microfilm data on readers/searcher
Operates, maintains, and uses variety of printers (e.g., high speed and laser printers); organizes, sorts and prints interim and final copies of patient results for distribution and charting
Operates and maintains burster in producing and preparing laboratory reports
Using Laboratory Information System, generates, processes, and distributes laboratory reports as scheduled; monitors Laboratory Information System for problems and notifies supervisor of such occurrences
Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide care and/or service appropriate to age groups served
Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide culturally sensitive care and/or service
Performs other duties and accepts responsibility as assigned
Directs patient to other areas to expedite service; assists with non-professional and non-technical patient care duties when required
Types correspondence, records, and forms; uses office machines such as typewriter, adding machine, duplicator and telephone
