Geologist Assistant (Summer Seasonal)
The State of South Dakota is seeking seasonal Geologist Assistants to assist Geological Survey personnel with tasks related to the mapping of ground water resources and geology. The role includes drilling test holes, installing monitoring wells, water sampling, mapping, data analysis, and GIS.

Responsibilities
Learn the technology of various drilling methods
Learn how monitoring wells are installed and sampled
Learn mapping techniques
Learn how to interpret geologic and hydrologic information
Assist with geophysical logging of test holes and see how the logs are used to interpret subsurface geology
Assist in the installation of monitoring wells
Gain hands-on experience that will be valuable for future work in the geologic or environmental sciences
Gain experience seeing and interpreting drill cuttings or core recovered from test holes in glacial and bedrock sediments
Qualification
Required
Full- or part-time college student status
Valid drivers license
Knowledge of how to use topographic and geologic maps
Knowledge of how to use GIS software
