Identify and ensure design compliance with all relevant standards, legislation, Customer requirements, DNO standards and contract specifications throughout the project lifecycle
Review tender or contract documentation and establish the primary electrical scope of works and prepare design deliverables
Be proficient in producing substation electrical layout drawings for 11kV distribution networks, 22kV distribution networks, 33kV switchrooms and control rooms, 66kV AIS substations, 132kV AIS substations, 132kV GIS substations, and BoP/EPC site layouts for battery and other renewable projects
Produce plan and elevation drawings through HV / EHV AIS compounds
Produce bus bar calculations to determine the most appropriate busbar size and support requirements
Produce busbar bar and clamp schedules, specifying the correct fixed and sliding clamps for the installation situation
Produce initial outline support structure designs and schedules, allowing a specialist steel fabrication provider to detail up
Design and analysis of earthing systems for substations, power plants, renewable energy sites (e.g., solar, wind, battery), and grid connections

Familiarity with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and lightning protection
Undertaking fall of potential testing where necessary
Production of a final earthing fall of potential test report
Undertaking impressed voltage studies and producing associated technical reports
Undertaking lightning risk assessments and lightning studies (if the risk assessment process determines a requirement)
Specification of earthing materials for above and below ground earthing and lightning protection systems
Where necessary, manage external design suppliers who may be undertaking earthing design or similar activities
Undertake lightning risk assessments to the requirements of BS 62305-2
Produce above ground earthing layouts to communicate to site installation teams how to connect structures, plant and equipment to the main earthing system in accordance with the relevant standards
Produce accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations
Produce specifications for major items of plant such as disconnectors and contribute to the production of specifications for more complex items such as circuit breakers
