Responsibilities
Serve as a partner to the Chair in the administrative and business operations of the Department of Radiology
Responsible for the overall leadership and management of all administrative activities in the Department
Manage general department administration, financial administration, academic personnel and salary administration, human resources functions, and sponsored projects administration
Partner with management to enhance the Clinical Program and develop new programs including business plans and funding models
Represent the Chair and act as a liaison with top administration and professionals on various issues
Manage strategic and operational planning as well as ongoing operations for the Department of Radiology
Provide management of related professional staff and their associated allied health professionals and trainees
Establish service, productivity, and cost standards and goals consistent with the health system strategic plan
Ensure quality, efficiency, and continuity of services for all related functions
Plan and execute strategic measures to manage growth and resources
Understand and maintain regulatory compliance; formulate and administer departmental policies and procedures
Work closely with senior staff to acquire and manage resources and infrastructure necessary to support teaching, research, and service missions
Seek opportunities in revenue-generating services
Set and guide priorities, and coordinate interrelated projects among functional areas
Participate with other higher-level managers to establish strategic plans and objectives
Make decisions on operational matters and ensure achievement of objectives for a large college or operating unit
Qualification
Required
A Bachelor's degree in related area plus eight years of related experience, or equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and training
Excellent leadership abilities to oversee multiple functions or departments through subordinate managers
Advanced knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; accounting and payroll. Demonstrated ability to provide detailed financial data analysis, modeling, review
Management of a large, complex, multi-mission organization
Excellent skills to work collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations; skills in conflict management techniques
Ability to coordinate management efforts with other administrators, faculty, the Health System, School of Medicine, and other elements of the University
Demonstrated ability to execute and implement complex change initiatives including communications planning, change management, proposal development, financial modeling, risk and issue mitigation and detailed implementation planning
Skilled in verbal and written communication with leadership, faculty and staff stakeholders. Demonstrated experience with executive level presentations
Knowledge of healthcare industry and reimbursement trends
Skills in establishing and implementing customer service standards. Excellent ability to establish metrics for department and employee goals which measure effectiveness of contributions to efficient operations of department
Strong knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs
Advanced project management skills, including the capability to manage capital projects
Advanced knowledge of administrative management theory and ability to translate this knowledge into practice
Advanced skills in strategy development, systems planning and change management
Preferred
Masters degree or advanced training in a relevant field of study (MBA, MHA, Finance certification, etc.)
Progressive leadership experience in a clinical health sciences setting, ideally within Radiology department/business office
Lab and clinic facilities management experience
Current UC San Diego Health Sciences employee highly preferred
