The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Engineer Associate III/Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer to assist in the planning, scheduling, and supervising of maintenance activities in Edgefield County. The role involves managing inspection activities, handling personnel matters, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Civil Engineering

Responsibilities

Serves as the Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer in Edgefield Maintenance
Assists the Resident Maintenance Engineer (RME) in the planning, scheduling, and supervising of daily maintenance activities including coordination of equipment and personnel during inclement weather
Assumes the responsibility of the RME in their absence
Assists the Resident Maintenance Engineer with handling personnel matters to include but not limited to Employee Performance Management System (EPMS) reviews, position descriptions, and disciplinary actions
Responsible for enforcing departmental policy, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations
Manages various inspection activities (guardrail, catch basin, and culverts) per engineering directives for all state maintained roads in Edgefield County
Investigates requests for service and complaints from the general public, public officials, or contractors and makes recommendations for corrective action
Assists in the processing of claims
Updates and maintains the Edgefield Roadway Asset Database
Performs monthly quality control through the use of the Discoverer reports
Performs other related duties as assigned

Required

A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management
Three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience
Ability to assist in planning, scheduling, and supervising daily maintenance activities
Ability to coordinate equipment and personnel during inclement weather
Ability to handle personnel matters including Employee Performance Management System (EPMS) reviews, position descriptions, and disciplinary actions
Ability to enforce departmental policy and ensure compliance with safety regulations
Ability to manage various inspection activities (guardrail, catch basin, and culverts) per engineering directives
Ability to investigate requests for service and complaints from the general public, public officials, or contractors
Ability to make recommendations for corrective action
Ability to assist in the processing of claims including damage claims
Ability to update and maintain the Edgefield Roadway Asset Database
Ability to perform monthly quality control through the use of the Discoverer reports
Ability to perform other related duties as assigned
Ability to sit or stand at a desk for extended periods of time
Ability to travel occasionally
Ability to bend, stoop, reach, twist, climb, balance, and kneel
Ability to walk for extended periods, tread rough terrain, and work in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards
Ability to work outside normal business hours or respond to emergency situations
